Resource Room Teacher (5th6th Grade)
Location
Sylvan Hills, Georgia (In-person beginning July 7; virtual training starts June 30)
Start & Transition Timeline
- June 30: Position begins with virtual OrtonGillingham training
- Week of July 7: On-site instruction begins
Caseload
Work with a small cohort of 5th and 6th graders in the resource room.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide targeted reading and literacy interventions using the OrtonGillingham approach to support language-based learning needs
- Develop, deliver, and adapt small-group and individualized lessons aligned with IEP goals.
- Monitor student progress, maintain data records, and adjust instruction based on ongoing assessment.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure cohesive educational programming
- Communicate regularly with parents, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress and instructional planning
- Participate in professional learning communities, planning meetings, and other school events.
- Integrate technology and assistive tools to support literacy and learning
- Uphold a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment that boosts student confidence.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelors degree in Education, Special Education, Literacy, or related field (Masters preferred)
- Certification or training in OrtonGillingham (Associate level or higher preferred)
- Experience working with upper-elementary students (grades 46), particularly those with dyslexia or language-based learning challenges .
- Strong knowledge of IEP development, progress monitoring, and differentiated instruction
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to engage families and collaborate with staff
- Familiarity with technology tools and assistive technology for literacy support
- Patience, organization, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with students with learning differences.

Training Timeline

- July 7 Onward (In-person): Begin teaching in resource room and co-teaching collaborations.
