The Advanced Construction Materials Lab led by Professor Kamal H. Khayat at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is currently seeking highly motivated Ph.D. students to join the research team.


Location: Rolla, Missouri, USA

Department: Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering

Start Date: Preferred entry for Fall 2025


Professor Khayat’s lab is internationally recognized for cutting-edge research in high-performance and sustainable cement-based materials. Key areas of focus include:

  • Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC)
  • Fiber-Reinforced Concrete
  • 3D Printable Concrete
  • AI-Driven Mix Design and Property Prediction
  • Sustainable and Low-Carbon Concrete
  • Grouts for Specialized and Underwater Construction

The lab collaborates with U.S. federal and state agencies, industry partners, and leading academic institutions worldwide.


Research Topics:

  • Performance optimization and testing of structural UHPC
  • Sustainable concrete using recycled materials and alternative binders
  • Rheology and buildability of 3D printable concrete
  • AI and machine learning for concrete property prediction and mix design
  • Fiber-reinforced and shrinkage-compensating eco-concretes
  • Underwater and specialty grouting materials


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong interest in concrete or cementitious materials
  • Prior experimental research experience is preferred


Funding and Support:

  • Full tuition coverage for graduate studies
  • Graduate research assistantship (stipend provided)
  • Participation in industry-collaborative and interdisciplinary research
