Job Description

Position Objective: To support the Museum’s mission by developing and implementing informal education experiences and supporting the strategic objectives of the Education and Engagement team with a specific focus on our Spanish language audience. This position helps develop curriculum, facilitates floor programs, school programs, workshops, camps, and other educational experiences. This position will also help with translation of curriculum and signage.


General E&E Responsibilities


  • Development, prototyping, and delivery of experiences and programs for visitors, including:
    • Paid programs for children, families, adults and groups (summer camps, school programs, family events, etc.)
    • Informal, on-the-floor programs for visitors
    • Off-site programs
    • Special programs as they arise
    • Management of space for delivery (e.g. classroom), storage areas and materials (including animals)
    • Classroom management for child, young adult, and adult audiences during delivery of programs, and/or managing educators in such delivery.
    • Work on cross-departmental teams as needed
    • Support general Museum activities
    • Evening and weekend work required
    • Other duties as needed

Facilitator Responsibilities- Spanish Program Support

  • Facilitate Education and Engagement programs in English and Spanish including:
    • School programs
    • Facilitated spaces activities
    • Community event programs
    • Camp programs
  • Write curriculum in Spanish and English
  • Help with translation of materials from English to Spanish
  • Complete a guided education-related project during year two


Qualifications

Required Desired

  • Spanish language fluency
  • Passion for informal education, particularly related to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), computational thinking, and/or design thinking
  • Willingness to work with and handle vertebrate and invertebrate animals
  • Ability to engage with children and adults in a friendly, outgoing and professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Creativity, dependability, flexibility and enthusiasm
  • Must be able to be on their feet for up to 6 hours at a time, walk distances of up to one mile over varying terrains, be able to lift 25 pounds (reasonable accommodations can be made)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • College degree in education, science, or related field, or have 2+ years equivalent experience
  • Experience managing a classroom or audience of child, young adult, or adult learners.
  • Experience developing and implementing inquiry-based, materials-rich curriculum to children, families and/or adults
  • Experience working in a museum or other informal educational setting
  • Experience using technology to augment and enhance curriculum and program delivery
