The Women’s Fund of East Tennessee (WFET) is a 501(c)3 public, non-profit supporting organization of the East Tennessee Foundation (ETF). With a mission to serve as a catalyst to transform the lives of low-income women and girls in East Tennessee, the organization focuses on post-secondary education as a means to achieve self-sustainability through granting to and collaboration with their network of grantee non-profits – known as the Strong Women Strong Futures Network (SWSF). Fundraising by the organization is focused on 1) our Endowment, managed and secured by ETF to support the network, as well as 2) the Self-Sustainability Fund, secured through the organization’s annual operating budget.

Position Overview

The Executive Director/Chief Development Officer (ED/CDO) leads all fundraising and strategic initiatives to advance WFET’s mission: empowering low-income women and girls in East Tennessee through post-secondary education. This role oversees fund development, grantmaking, community engagement, and organizational operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Asset Development

  • Lead efforts to grow WFET’s Endowment from $4M to $6M+ in the short term and $10–15M by 2030.
  • Cultivate and steward individual and corporate donors.
  • Collaborate with ETF and Board members to secure major gifts and grants.
  • Manage annual fundraising events and donor communications.
  • Ensure donor data accuracy; supervise interns or contractors as needed.

Grants & Program Oversight

  • Direct the grant selection and funding process for WFET's networks.
  • Partner with grantees and stakeholders to promote program impact.
  • Support planning and hosting of network convenings.

Leadership & Administration

  • Manage budget and financial reporting with support from a bookkeeper.
  • Hire, evaluate, and manage any WFET staff or contractors.
  • Work with the Board on strategic planning, board development, and governance.
  • Prepare materials and attend all board, committee, and network meetings.

Community & Communications

  • Represent WFET at events, in media, and with key stakeholders.
  • Develop communication materials and talking points.
  • Build partnerships with similar organizations and regional allies.
  • Stay informed on issues affecting low-income women and girls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership in nonprofit fundraising and asset development.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media, and donor CRM tools (e.g., Neon One).
