Job Description

Job Title: 1:1 Paraeducator (Paraprofessional)

Start Date: Immediately


Position Overview:

Creative Arts is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Paraeducator to provide direct support to a student with specific needs in our K-8 program. The ideal candidate will work closely with the student, teachers, and support staff to ensure the student's safety, emotional well-being, and academic progress. This role requires patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to a student with specific educational and behavioral needs.
  • Implement the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and safety plan under the guidance of the classroom teacher and support team.
  • Assist the student in accessing the curriculum, completing assignments, and participating in classroom activities.
  • Monitor and support the student’s emotional and behavioral needs, employing de-escalation strategies as necessary.
  • Facilitate communication between the student and peers to promote social interaction and inclusion.
  • Assist with the student's physical needs as required (e.g., mobility, transitions between activities, etc.).
  • Maintain consistent communication with the classroom teacher, special education team, and parents/guardians regarding the student’s progress.
  • Document and report on the student’s daily activities, achievements, and areas of concern.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development to stay informed on best practices and strategies.
  • Uphold the school’s values and policies, ensuring a safe and positive environment for the students and all members of the school community.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher in education, child development, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, especially those with special needs, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.


Working Conditions:

  • This is a full-time position with hours corresponding to the school day.
  • The role may require physical activity, including standing, walking, and assisting with student mobility.
  • Must be able to respond quickly in situations that require immediate attention or de-escalation.
