A Chance To Grow (ACTG) is a mission-driven, non-profit based in Northeast Minneapolis. Since 1983, we've been empowering children and adults to reach their fullest potential through innovative, brain-based programs. Our dedicated team delivers life-changing services in the areas of therapy, education, and care – helping thousands of children with developmental disabilities, families and teen parents, educators, child care providers, and adults with special needs across the Twin Cities and beyond.

We are currently looking for an Assistant Teacher in our Infant classroom. Become part of a hard-working, highly dedicated team of teachers! This is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow and develop their skills in the early childhood education field with opportunity for advancement.

Turnquist Child Enrichment Center, a program of ACTG is a 4-Star Parent Aware, Strong Beginnings, NAEYC Accredited Child Care Center.

Position type: Full-Time

Classroom : Infants

Hours: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm and occasional monthly after school activities

Starting Pay range: $16.00 - $17.50 per hour, depending on qualifications. Eligible for additional monthly bonuses after 30 days of employment.

Benefits: ACTG offers employer subsidized Medical, employer paid Life and AD&D, in addition to other benefits including 401(k), PTO, Holiday Pay, Dental, Vision, and 529 College Savings Plan to employees who work 30 or more hours per week.

Location: ACTG is located in a beautiful neighborhood in Northeast Minneapolis close to public transit and freeways, downtown, retail, restaurants, and walking trails.

Description of responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and carrying out individual and group classroom activities

  • Provide guidance and inspiration to assist each child’s success in each area of the classroom

  • Ensure constant communication with Lead teacher and other program staff

  • ​Ability to pass a criminal background upon offer

Experience/Education:

  • Some College credit in education, psychology, human services, art, multicultural studies or any related fields (Required)

  • Experience working with children with special needs (Preferred)

  • At least 1 year of experience working or volunteering as an Aide, Assistant Teacher, Teacher, or Paraprofessional in a daycare, school, or early childhood center. (Required)

  • Ability to meet Rule 3 requirements for Assistant Teachers (https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/?id=9503.0032)

Skills:

  • Ability to plan and implement high quality, interactive lesson plans

  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in high stress situations

  • Ability to take on a teacher role in the absence of the lead teacher

  • Ability to work well with others on the team and communicate effectively

  • Some artistic skills not required but preferred

  • Knowledge of early childhood developmental milestones
