Position Announcement: NJC Early Childhood Education Skills Instructor

Northeastern Junior College is seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to serve as Early Childhood Education (ECE) Skills Instructors (aka Skills Guides). Skills Guides will work in conjunction with ECE faculty provide ECE pre-service teacher students enrolled in a certificate or degree plan of study with advisement, coaching and assessment of teaching skill to students working with young children in a hands-on experience in an EC classroom setting.

The Skills Guide/Mentor must be patient and respectful, while also providing their expectations for what is considered acceptable work. This position reports to the department chair within the discipline and does not supervise other employees. Occasional meetings or trainings may also be scheduled outside of regular work hours. The finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be:

  1. Mentoring and Instructing Early Childhood Education students in field-based activities.
  2. Offering skill building support to enhance their teaching and classroom management abilities.
  3. Coaching and providing constructive feedback on students' teaching techniques.
  4. Assessing students' application of coursework knowledge in real-world settings.
  5. Maintaining accurate records of student progress and submitting grades by established deadlines.
  6. Completing necessary paperwork, such as timesheets, classroom site evaluations, program assessments, and student evaluations.
  7. Act as a liaison between the classroom site's staff, students, and the ECE Program, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
  8. Participate in reflective consultation, meetings, and events as expected.
  9. Additional duties as assigned.

What You Will Need:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills regarding computer usage and teaching technologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings.
  • Broad knowledge of early childhood education including child development, guidance practices, and teaching practices, and successful handling of day-to-day classroom routines in the classroom setting
  • Broad knowledge of the Colorado General rules and Regulations for Childcare, the CDEC Competencies for Early Childhood Professionals, and the Colorado Early Learning and Development Guidelines
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students

What We Require:

  • Must hold current CDEC EC Director Qualification letter AND equivalent PDIS Credential Level III
  • Take the Intro to Relationship-Based Mentoring 3 credit course and Intro to Relationship-Based Mentoring Lab for 1 credit the semester before working with students (currently paid for through ECCLA Scholarships) which the candidate then enters in PDIS for an initial coaching credential OR have a current initial coaching credential.
  • 3 plus years working experience in early childhood classroom settings with multiple age groups (infants/toddlers, preschool, and/or school-aged children)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate, bachelor's, or master's degree in ECE or Child Development form an accredited institution.
  • Five + years working experience in early childhood classroom settings with multiple age groups (infants/toddlers, preschool, and/or school-aged children)

What We Can Offer:

The pay for this position is $38.30 - $76.60 hourly, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week.

This is a grant funded position which may not be continued when grant funding expires.
