The School Social Worker will work with students, families, and school staff to provide support and resources to ensure a safe learning environment and successful academic outcomes. This position will create a safe school climate and promote positive behavior and social/emotional development in children and adolescents. The School Social Worker will provide direct services, including individual and group counseling, conflict resolution, and crisis management.
School Social Worker Duties and Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with students, families, school personnel, and community resources in order to identify, assess, and resolve issues that may be impacting student's academic and social/emotional development
- Provide individual and group counseling to students and their families to address issues such as bullying, stress management, substance abuse, and academic underachievement
- Develop and implement intervention plans to address student’s social/emotional needs
- Advocate for students and families in the school and community
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, and school personnel in order to facilitate communication and collaboration
- Provide crisis management and support in the event of traumatic events
- Monitor student progress and provide recommendations for follow-up services
School Social Worker Requirements and Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work or related field
- Licensed or license-eligible as a social worker in the state of practice
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, family systems, and school-based interventions
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work collaboratively with diverse populations
- Able to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
