Pay Rate: $25 - $40/hr, depending on experience
Company Description
EcoArts Kids in San Diego, CA, is committed to engaging young minds through artistic expression while instilling a love for the environment. We collaborate with local environmental organizations to integrate environmental education into our art-focused programs, inspiring creativity and raising awareness about critical environmental issues. Our mission is to nurture every child’s creative confidence and connection to nature. We believe every student deserves to feel seen for their unique gifts and imagination.
For the Fall 2025 School Year, we are looking for educators and artists who:
- Have a genuine love for nature, the earth, and inspiring sustainability-minded creativity in young people.
- Believe in nurturing every child’s connection to the natural world through hands-on art.
- Bring a sense of wonder, curiosity, and respect for the environment into every lesson.
How Our Program Works
- This is an after-school program — classes run in the afternoons, usually 2:00–4:30pm, depending on each school’s dismissal time.
- Each art class is 1–2 hours long, plus paid time for setup, lesson planning, supply organization, and clean-up.
- Classes happen once or twice per week per school site, and each site runs for 8–10 weeks at a time.
- Teachers typically work at 1–4 school sites per session, and schedules may change with each new session.
- You must transport your art supply bin and materials to each school site.
- Class sizes range from 10–25 students. A Lead Teacher and a Teaching Assistant work together to run each class smoothly.
- Teachers must commit to the entire 8–10 week contracted session for consistency and student success.
✅ Lead Art Teacher Qualifications
- Must have 5+ years of classroom teaching experience (credentialed or non-credentialed welcome)
- Confident in managing a class independently (approx. 15–25 students)
- Skilled at teaching visual art basics (drawing, painting, mixed media)
- Able to build warm relationships with kids, families & school staff members
- Organized, reliable, and calm under pressure
✅ Teaching Assistants Qualifications
- Talented artists or creatives with experience working with children in a group setting
- Passionate about art and environmental education
- Team players who enjoy supporting Lead Teachers and connecting with students one-on-one
Must Have
- Smartphone (required for clocking in/out and work communication)
- Reliable transportation to travel to school sites and transport art supplies
- Availability for afternoon shifts (approx. 2:00–4:30pm), 2–4 days per week
- Live Scan fingerprint clearance & background check (required before working on site — we’ll help with this)
- Completion of Mandated Reporter Training & Sexual Abuse Prevention Training (provided upon hire, per insurance requirements)
💚 What You’ll Do
- Lead or support engaging, eco-focused art lessons for TK–5th grade students
- Greet every student by name, encourage collaboration, and celebrate their creative effort
- Manage your art supply bin and maintain stewardship of materials and classroom space
- Communicate kindly and professionally with parents during pick-up/drop-off
- Keep students safe, follow all site rules, and model EcoArts values
🎉 Why Join EcoArts Kids?
- Uplift young artists & inspire environmental awareness through hands-on projects
- Work with a supportive team that values your teaching gifts and artistic talents
- Part-time hours that fit around other commitments
- Paid training and planning time
