Description: Reporting to the Dean of Learning Support Services, the Student Service Advisor is responsible for managing a case-load of students from time of acceptance to the college through graduation.
This position will assist with educational planning, enrollment completion, testing requirements, academic advisement, registration assistance, communication assistance, monitoring academic progress, obtaining academic support, counseling services, accommodations, career services, community-based supports and other auxiliary services deemed instrumental to student success. This position is considered integral to facilitating the institutional strategic goal of student success as measured by through persistence, retention and completion.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Master's Degree in Student Personnel Administration, Education, Counseling or related field.
· At least one year of experience working in higher education.
· Ability to relate and work with diverse populations.
· Possesses a high degree of personal and professional integrity and commitment to the mission of Trocaire College.
Preferred Qualifications:
· 2 + years' experience working in a student service function within higher education
· 2 + years' experience in academic advisement.
· Understanding of student affairs policy, laws, compliance, and best practices within the profession
Job Specific Functions:
· Support the Trocaire College Mission.
· Provide intrusive academic, career, and personal development advising to assigned students to improve retention, good academic standing, and graduation.
· Maintain current knowledge of academic requirements, institutional policies and procedures to ensure student success.
· Offers academic, career and personal support to guide students through the course selection process.
· Advises students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures.
· Assists students with clarifying values and goals.
· Administer advisement-based retention activities such as Student Action Alerts, Mid-Term Warnings, and other means of monitoring academic progress.
· Meet with identified students to develop Academic Plans to ensure Satisfactory Academic Progress.
· Contribute to the retention efforts of the institution through collaborative and cooperative initiatives
· Refers students to appropriate campus resources for assistance and support.
· Provide workshops and instructional opportunities to students on student success strategies.
· Provide academic counseling and assistance to students changing programs or transferring from the college.
· Perform duties at all Trocaire locations.
· Participate in local, regional, and/or national professionally-related organizations and/or participate in professional training opportunities.
· Assist Student Affairs colleagues with events, activities and initiatives that contribute to student success effort.
· A commitment to enriching the lives of students by promoting a positive learning environment; enhancing the quality of the student experience; and philosophically supporting programs and policies that facilitate student success.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
