Curriculum Manager

Reports To: Assistant Educare Director

Salary (Grade): Negotiable

Status: Reg., FT (Non-Exempt)

Location: Educare Winnebago located in Winnebago, Nebraska

Educare Winnebago is a collaborative partnership between the Winnebago Tribal Council, Winnebago Head Start Pre-School, Winnebago Early Head Start and the Winnebago Public Schools. The mission of Educare is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children ages 0 to 5 through the provision of evidence-based education, health, nutritional, social, and other services to children and their families.

Job Purpose & Position Overview
The Curriculum Manager has the primary responsibility of providing teaching staff with individualized and team coaching support to enhance the quality of early childhood classroom services. The Curriculum Manager will provide direct support to all teaching staff and will also help teaching staff with developing professional development plans and goals. The Curriculum Manager works in collaboration with the Education Program Managers to ensure high quality teaching practices that create a positive learning environment, coaching teachers to build connections with students and utilize effective instruction methods. The Curriculum Manager will use assessment data to guide curriculum planning, identify student strengths and weaknesses and support, and offer teachers with education and behavioral supports.
Will cooperate and work closely with all Early Head Start and Head Start Preschool staff, parents, and families to ensure that the Winnebago culture is integrated across component areas. Will be responsible for reflective supervision of the education staff.

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate the Winnebago Tribes core mission, vision, and values.
  • Understands and follows the chain of command of the Educare Winnebago Program and of the Tribal Organizations
  • Understands and adheres to the Policies and Procedures of Educare Winnebago and the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska

Managerial Tasks

  • Will create the professional development yearly calendar that meets the Head Start Performance Standard and State of Nebraska requirements. Aligns the programs school readiness goals, curricula, and other approaches to professional development. Includes clearly articulated goals informed by the programs and a process for achieving those goals.
  • Assists teaching staff with professional development plans. The Curriculum Manger will update the professional plans and updates plans yearly.
  • Prepares and submits monthly reports to the Assistant Director and Educare Director detailing center activities.
  • Schedules protected reflective supervision meetings with classroom teachers and/or teaching teams.
  • Attend training and meetings, as scheduled and/or assigned.

Child Development

  • Ensures teachers recognize any developmental delays, special medical or nutritional needs which affect any child in their care and ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Ensures that IFSP/IEP goals are incorporated in the individualized lesson plans for children.
  • Recognize childrens skills, behavior and growth and development.
  • Models developmentally appropriate early childhood instructional techniques and practices in the classroom including how to support the childrens social emotional needs.
  • Collaborates with the Education Service Unit #1 (ESU#1), University of Nebraska Medical Center-Munroe Meyer (UNMC) and the Office of Head Start for classroom observations, data collection and analysis, coordinate staff surveys.

Classroom Management

  • Shares positive guidance methods such as reinforcement and redirection and use each appropriately to teaching staff.
  • Will coach teachers to maintain stimulation and healthy learning environments. Works with teachers to ensure that all children always have the appropriate supervision and guidance.
  • Encourages teachers to help children develop self-regulation skills.
  • Engage in coaching and reflective supervision practices with classroom teachers to ensure high quality program practices by observing in the classrooms, engaging in collaborative problem solving and planning and implementation of agreed upon strategies, and reflecting on progress made to determine next steps.
  • Provides constructive feedback, models effective teaching strategies which leave teachers with enhanced skills and confidence.

Curriculum

  • Assists in the implementation of classroom curriculum, ensuring that it meets the needs of individual children.
  • Ensure classrooms are using the curriculum to fidelity.
  • Monitor and record lesson plans to ensure they include:
    • o Individualized student goals
    • o Objectives utilizing the Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines, Creative Curriculum, HSELOF, Conscious Discipline and are developmentally appropriate that include experiences that will enhance the (1) language and literacy development, (2) cognition and general knowledge, (3) approaches to learning, (4) physical well-being and motor development, and (5) social and emotional development of each child (6) incorporate the Winnebago Language and Culture
  • Monitors appropriate records and data on each child with emphasis upon the childs response to developmental activities and his/her progress toward prescribed individual goals, as determined by staff and family.
  • Assists teachers in interpreting and analyzing assessment results to support teachers in using those results to plan individual and classroom experiences as well as in their conversations with families.

Classroom Leadership

  • Provide leadership for the classroom team (e.g., plan for and lead team planning sessions, monitor teammates observation notes and appropriate goal identification, advocate for and support best practices in the classroom). Participating as needed.
  • Provide coaching and reflective supervision of the education staff.
  • Serve as a mentor/model to Lead Teacher, Associate Teacher, and Teacher aide.
  • Identify professional development goals, provide ongoing professional development, and ensure implementation. Will collaborate with the Education Program Managers to ensure Child Development Associate (CDA) are complete in a timely manner.
  • Models developmentally appropriate early childhood instructional techniques and practices in the classroom including how to support the childrens social emotional needs.
  • Build positive relationships with all teaching staff, children, and their families.

Other

  • May be required to assist the Education Program Managers on day-to-day classroom teacher coverage and staffing.
  • Provides ongoing communication between the Educare Director, Assistant Director and Education Program Managers.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Must have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in early childhood education or related field.
  • Prefer knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Knowledge of Winnebago language and culture is desired.
  • A valid drivers license.
  • Organization skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to collaboratively solve problem-solve.
  • Knowledge of state childcare licensing requirements
  • Skilled staff/child relation skills are required. Must be able to work with a variety of personalities. This will require the individual to be able to deal with parents, children, and other tribal employees with tact, courtesy, respect and objectivity and maturity.
  • Must be able to speak to children at eye level, to play with the children and pick up toys/equipment from the floor.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health and be of good moral character.
  • Must have a physical examination and tuberculin test annually.
  • Presents a positive image for Head Start in the community. Must have a positive role model for children, families, and staff.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No supervisory responsibilities

Training Requirements:

  • Must attend all training courses as required by the Assistant Director and/or Educare Director.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office and classroom equipment.
  • Manual dexterity with cooperatively free range of motion of all extremities including neck, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet.

Mental Requirements:

  • Reading, writing, calculating.
  • Above average social interaction skills
  • Reasoning/Analysis
  • Works with minimal to no supervision

Language Requirements:

  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Must be able to employ professional verbal and written communications skills continually and effectively.
  • Must be willing to learn HoChunk Language

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Will obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days and maintain throughout tenure.
