Job DescriptionGeneral Position Summary:

As the Leadership Teacher for the Esto Dux Leadership Certification Program, this position involves teaching the freshman "Introduction to Leadership" course while participating in the broader development of the four-year leadership curriculum. The teacher will form bold leaders committed to the unconditional service of God and others through an approach that integrates Catholic Faith, Leadership, Academics, and Character Development.

The Leadership Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students at Nolan Catholic. The Leadership Teacher provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth toward a successful future. The Leadership Teacher has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Abides by the Confidentiality Policy set forth in the Diocese Employee Handbook
  • Plans for instruction with logically sequenced objectives, based on adopted curriculum and submitted according to the local school policy
  • Provides appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning
  • Uses effective instructional methods/models according to professional standard practice
  • Uses varied assessment tools to perform both formative and summative assessments
  • Provides instruction and assessment for understanding
  • Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy
  • Practices positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom
  • Proactively communicates with parents regarding academic, behavioral, or safety concerns
  • Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
  • Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates gains in student performance that are in keeping with school goals
  • Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual learning needs
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Assesses student leadership competencies and growth
  • Contributes to the selection of supplemental leadership materials and case studies
  • Adjusts instructional strategies to meet learning needs
  • Makes recommendations for leadership program enhancements
  • Identifies students showing exceptional leadership potential
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, committees, etc., as assigned

Additional Accountabilities for Leadership Teacher:

  • Implements the freshman "Introduction to Leadership" curriculum with fidelity to Catholic teaching
  • Serves as a visible exemplar of Nolan Catholic's six core values
  • Facilitates weekly Socratic seminars on Catholic leadership virtues and practices
  • Designs lesson plans connecting the lives of Catholic saints to modern leadership challenges
  • Assesses student development across eight key leadership competencies
  • Mentors students in developing their personal leadership philosophy and four-year roadmap
  • Collaborates with Campus Ministry, Student Government Leadership, House System, and academic departments to create integrated leadership opportunities
  • Participates in curriculum development for subsequent years of the leadership certification program
  • Coordinates executive mentorship opportunities with local Catholic business and community leaders
  • Documents best practices and contributes to the ongoing refinement of the leadership curriculum

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position works in a typical school environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding needs of the Diocese, tight deadlines and moderate workloads.
  • Ability to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time.
  • Able to access and maintain centralized departmental files. Involves extending arms and reaching files stored in multiple levels on shelves, climbing up a stepladder to access files.
  • Ability to accept work interruptions while remaining focused on duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance.
  • Required to work some nights and weekends
  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
  • Required to teach per school schedule
  • Required to work in standard classroom and school conditions
  • Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment
  • Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather
  • Flexibility to attend occasional leadership events outside normal school hours
  • Ability to organize and facilitate off-campus leadership experiences

Travel Requirements:

  • Infrequent travel, by car, may be required to Diocese Parishes and/or schools.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred in Leadership, Theology, Philosophy, Education, or related field
  • Meets the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCED
  • 3+ years teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in organizational, educational, or ministerial settings
  • Experience with discussion-based learning and Socratic method
