Position Summary:
The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is seeking applications for part-time faculty positions to support the College’s online MS in Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing. Faculty are needed in the following courses: Biopharmaceutical Microbiology, Downstream Technology, Mammalian Cell Culture, Microbial Fermentation, and Regulatory Science.
Each program course is currently being developed by subject matter experts and will be composed of a combination of both asynchronous and synchronous online elements. Part-time faculty roles include:
- Instructors to develop the course materials for the asynchronous component (recorded lectures) of online offerings
- Instructors to teach the synchronous component (in-person over Zoom) of online offerings
- Instructors to teach the 3-day intensive laboratory component (on-campus) of hybrid courses

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
Adjunct instructors need a strong understanding of the subjects they teach with the primary goal of educating students. While the individual duties and responsibilities vary by role, the typical adjunct instructor is responsible for:
- Developing a course syllabus for each class they teach
- Lecturing, leading class discussions and conducting other teaching activities during scheduled classes
- Creating, administering and grading various assessment methods
- Answering questions and providing additional support for students
- Calculating and submitting grades for all students
- Collaborating with other professors to create coursework or support the department
- Following established expectations and protocols for the department
- Conducting research and staying current in the field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of the content matter of the supported course.
- Technological ability to understand and utilize TurnItIn, Canvas, Zoom, and other necessary instructional software.
- Necessary maturity, responsibility, integrity, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Education and Experience:
- Advanced degree or relevant experience in biomanufacturing and/or bioprocessing.
- Excellent subject knowledge, teaching skills, and prior experience working with students bound for the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience with online courses is helpful but not required as instructors will be paired with instructional designers where necessary.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Additional Information:
This hybrid position is based in Albany, NY. All remote work must be performed in a state in which the College is registered to do business which includes New York, California, Idaho, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Texas, Wisconsin, and Vermont.
Compensation
- $4600 per three credit hour lecture course
- $3900 per three contact hour lab
Length of Assignment
- appointments are per semester
- appointments are renewable based on need and performance
