Summary
The Weekday School is looking for a lead teacher tofoster the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of young children through structured learning activities and play-based experiences.They will create a safe, stimulating environment where children can explore their interests, develop foundational skills, and prepare for kindergarten.
Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Will maintain strong ethical and moral principles that foster professional behaviors, respect, cooperation, and growth
•Will maintain National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation and adhere to the standards and guidelines from the Virginia Department of Education
•Will maintain compliance with all Weekday School and First Presbyterian Church policies and procedures
•Will maintain commitment to developmentally appropriate education using Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline
•Will assume responsibility for the safety; and emotional, social, physical, and intellectual development of each child
•Will plan, implement, and evaluate classroom activities/outcomes; while adjusting for student readiness and development.Traditional face-to-face sessions are the norm; however, in times of extended school closure virtual sessions may be required; to include but not limited to emailing activities to families and virtual gatherings.
•Will maintain student records, plan and implement parent conferences (2 per year or as needed) while maintaining student and family confidentiality at all times
•Will adhere to the policies of Safe Sanctuaries
•Will acquire a minimum of 16 hours of continuing professional education in the area of Early Education.16 hours will be provided in-house or through on-line learning modules.
•Will perform related duties as assigned by Director of the Weekday School
Requirements
•Will hold (or seek to hold) a minimum of a CDA (Child Development Associate) certification or equivalent (12 ECE college credits); or, a baccalaureate degree in early childhood education and/or development.
•Minimum of 1 year experience working with children in a group setting
•Familiar with national guidelines for early childhood development, including the NAEYC accreditation guidelines and Christian development guidelines as well as state educational and national accreditation criteria guidelines
•Meet other requirements as specified by state educational and national accreditation criteria
•Commitment to the Christian faith and the Christian principles described in the philosophy of the school (Article III)
•Excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills
•Proven computer proficiency with standard office software and social media
