Job Profile – Paraprofessional 1:1
- Qualifications
- High School Diploma and a genuine interest in teaching and willingness to motivate students to learn.
- Sensitivity to student’s needs
- A desire to acquire effective training techniques and competency in behavior analysis programming.
- Accountability
- Accountable directly to the Program Coordinator/Sr. Teacher/ Classroom Teachers.
- Responsibilities
- Directly responsible for students.
- Knowledge of student’s special alerts.
- Assists in implementing daily and weekly programs in communication, academic, and social behaviors (including behavior programs that target measuring inappropriate behavior) as assigned.
- Assists in any clerical work required (i.e., daily evaluations, requisitions, taking data, graphing).
- Responsible for assisting students in carrying out daily activities as developed and planned.
- Responsible for participating in Hawthorne Country Day School facility training, in-service meetings, classroom meetings, and building meetings.
- Assists students daily in proper hygiene habits (Activities of Daily Living--ADLs/toileting program, changing diapers, etc.)
- Accompanies (student’s name) to the medical office or other services (speech, OT, PT, or gym) as needed.
- Assists students during group activities, in class or during library and computer time (helping them remain on-task and engage in appropriate activities).
- Disciplinary action will be taken if the above responsibilities are not performed satisfactorily.
- General Responsibilities
- Supervises and prompts students during mealtimes to eat appropriately (with utensils).
- Ensures that program areas are maintained properly.
- Participates in activities of daily living program.
- Assumes additional responsibility when assigned to maintain the quality of care for the student.
- Follows established HCDS facility and school policies and procedures.
- Participates in all recreational programs.
- Assures the safety and welfare of (student’s name).
- During transitions 1:1 staff should walk within arm's distance of student. Staff should accompany students into the bathroom if space allows (if the size of the bathroom makes this impractical, staff should remain directly outside the door, monitoring behavior).
- Will notify the teacher/Sr. Teacher in charge if it is necessary to leave the classroom for any reason, and give the teacher/Sr. Teacher the name of the person who will assume 1:1 responsibility. The 1:1 classroom sign-in/out sheet must be used. When resuming 1:1 responsibility, the teacher/Sr. Teacher in charge should again be notified.
- Assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
- Physical Requirements
- Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently during working hours.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the position's requirements can be fully met.
- Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility, and have the ability to work effectively with other personnel.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
