Job Title: Adjunct Instructor – Addiction Studies Mental Health (ASMH)

Summary: The Adjunct Instructor for the Addiction Studies Mental Health Program is responsible for leveraging their expertise to develop, maintain, and deliver education services to students through creating and maintaining core curriculum, ensuring delivery of core curriculum, preparing course plans and materials.

General Education Responsibilities:
An educational Addiction Studies Mental Health Adjunct Instructor's primary responsibilities to students are imparting knowledge, developing career abilities, and instilling professional attitudes within a creative and enthusiastic learning environment. In addition, faculty have administrative and developmental responsibilities, including advising students to enhance their educational experience. Assist Addiction Studies Mental Health students in understanding, managing and treating addiction and mental health issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the students learn the essential counseling skills, behavior modification techniques, and various therapeutic interventions applicable in diverse clinical settings.
  • Instruct on a variety of topics in the Addiction Studies program such as (substance abuse and issues in addiction prevention, therapeutic approaches to mental health treatment, methods of identification and intervention in substance abuse, identification and classification of mental health disorders, basic counseling skills, and strategies for maintaining changes
  • Identify and Review the components of the Certified Mental Health Technician (CMHT) or the Nationally Certified Psychiatric Technician-Level 1 (NCPT) certification examination for students to successfully pass
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations
  • Monitor instructor lesson plans and their posting
  • Adheres to academic policies/procedures for compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all internal compliance standards and processes
  • Ensure compliance with ABHES, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitor TWC, Federal, and Accrediting Standards Compliance.
  • Adheres to academic policies/procedures for compliance.


Knowledge/Education and Experience:

  • Degree or post-secondary education and relative experience to meet state (TWC) and ABHES accreditation requirements.
  • Minimum of (3) years of occupational experience in addiction studies, behavioral health, and/or counseling to meet state, programmatic, and institutional accreditation requirements
  • LPC or certification in addiction studies, behavioral health (preferred)
