Position Summary
The Teacher Assistant plays a vital role in fostering a nurturing and organized classroom environment under the guidance of a lead teacher. This position provides academic and emotional support to students, assists with classroom instruction and behavior management, and helps maintain an engaging learning atmosphere. The assistant will also support students outside the classroom during lunch, recess, and transitions—contributing to the safety and care of each child throughout the day.
Teacher Assistants are essential partners in building a school culture rooted in excellence, faith, and love—both in and out of the classroom.
Position Responsibilities

  • Help uphold and reinforce the CFS student behavior expectations with consistency and care.
  • Support classroom instruction by working with students individually or in small groups, and occasionally leading lessons under the guidance of the lead teacher.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of lessons and enrichment activities.
  • Build strong relationships with parents and guardians through regular, thoughtful communication.
  • Keep the classroom organized, clean, and welcoming students.
  • Design and update bulletin boards and displays that celebrate student learning.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, adhere to all communicable disease, employee policies, professional development and training.
  • Supervise students during lunch and other non-classroom periods.
  • Engage in the staff performance evaluation process with a growth mindset.
  • Follow all staff policies, including those related to health and communicable diseases.

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, OR a high school diploma with 3–4 years of relevant experience in education or youth programs.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year working with children, youth, or in urban education/community development settings.
  • Experience working in Camden or a similar urban community is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills
Comfort with technology, including online learning tools and data entry
Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
CPR and First Aid certification preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Must submit proof of recent physical exam, including TB and Hepatitis test, upon hire.
