Position Purpose

This position is an entry level housing policy position within a dynamic consulting firm that primarily advises public sector clients. The primary focus of the internship will be to assist with various housing policy consultants on various projects with public sector clients. The intern’s work will consist primary of support housing policy and planning initiatives including strategizing to use publicly-owned land for affordable housing development, creating new housing development financing models, and other efforts to assist LeSar’s clients such as cities, counties, regional agencies, school districts, and others. The position will provide the intern with in-depth exposure to an array of disciplines, including housing policy and planning, homelessness policy, real estate development, economic and community development, and sustainability. The intern will work as a vital member of our team to demonstrate that creating strong, healthy, sustainable communities necessitates thoughtful, strategic, and interdisciplinary policies.


How You Impact Success

  • Perform research on relevant subject matter areas and summarize findings in various report formats, such as narratives, graphical representations, or verbal or written presentations.
  • Aggregate and summarize federal, state, and local policies, planning documents, budgets and fees, legislation, and land use analysis information.
  • Track and report on local, state, and national policy issues and relevant news.
  • Organize, manage, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Provide content and editorial assistance on written reports, summary documents, virtual and in-person presentations, and internal communications.
  • Assist with coordination and facilitation of stakeholder and community engagement activities.
  • Work closely with project managers to manage client requests, update progress reports, and ensure projects are on budget and on schedule.
  • As needed, assist with writing and editing content for new business development such as requests for proposals and requests for qualifications.
  • As needed, contribute to marketing materials, including website content and strategic communication tasks.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s degree program (graduate student preferred) in a relevant field such as Real Estate & Land Use Law, Urban Planning, Public Policy/Administration, Economic Development, Housing and Homelessness, etc.
  • 1+ year of work experience and/or education in one or more of the following fields: Communications, Economic Development, Environmental Policy, Housing and Homelessness, Library Science/Information Management, Non-profit Management, Public Administration/Health/Policy, Real Estate & Land Use Law, Sociology, Sustainable Development, and Urban Planning.
  • Strong skills in written communication, research, and data analysis required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • CA residents only, with a preference for San Diego County residents.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

Standard business hours Monday-Friday, 10-20 hours per week. This position works mostly remote but may require occasional onsite work at the San Diego office. The internship is expected to last up to 3 months, with an option to extend.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Up to 5% local/domestic travel.
