Maintenance Technician

$1,500 Hiring Bonus!

Phillips Manufacturing is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Technician to join our manufacturing team in Tampa! In this hands-on role, you'll inspect, test, install, maintain, and repair a wide range of equipment throughout the facility. We're looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, has a strong understanding of basic electrical applications, and thrives in a fast-paced production environment.

This full-time (non-exempt) position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and is located at our Tampa, FL manufacturing facility.

Essential Functions:

  • Receive work orders and technical documentation from supervisors, ensuring clear understanding of tasks and equipment specifications prior to starting repairs or maintenance.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of manufacturing machinery including conveyors, motors, and hydraulic systems to identify wear, malfunctions, or potential safety issues.
  • Dismantle and reassemble industrial machines such as shears, presses, and forming equipment using hand and power tools, hoists, and cranes as needed.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PMs) on production machinery to minimize unplanned downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Respond promptly to emergency repair requests on production lines to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical or basic electrical issues under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Determine materials, tools, and methods needed for repairs or installation work by reviewing blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
  • Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and mechanical blueprints to locate faults and ensure correct installation of replacement parts or systems.
  • Install or repair electrical components such as switches, sensors, control panels, and motor wiring, while adhering to National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
  • Work at heights or in confined spaces using ladders, scaffolding, or lifts to access equipment located on ceilings or in sub-floor areas.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area around machines and tools, ensuring compliance with 5S and workplace safety standards.
  • Document changes and repairs made to equipment and create basic hand-drawn sketches or notes when technical documentation is unavailable.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance with flexibility for required overtime to meet production and repair deadlines.
  • Follow all plant safety protocols, including proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment), Lockout/Tagout procedures, and hazard communication guidelines.

KSA's: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of industrial equipment operation including electrical, mechanical drive systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics, and how to properly troubleshoot and repair them.
  • Understanding of mechanical and basic electrical principles related to motors, circuits, and controls in a manufacturing environment.
  • Team-oriented attitude with the ability to collaborate and assist other maintenance and production personnel as needed.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain problems, relay solutions, and document completed work.
  • Proficient in reading technical diagrams and blueprints, including electrical schematics, machine drawings, and installation plans.
  • Skilled in using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, multimeters, and alignment tools to ensure equipment is set to specification.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical (75%) and mechanical (25%) issues quickly and accurately, minimizing equipment downtime and preventing recurrence.
  • Strong visual inspection ability to identify abnormal equipment performance, leaks, fraying wires, misalignments, or signs of wear.
  • Meet physical requirements including standing, bending, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in varying temperatures and conditions throughout the shift.
  • Physically capable of performing demanding tasks, including working in tight spaces, at heights, and in a fast-paced, high-production setting.
  • Commitment to following company policies and industry safety standards while demonstrating a proactive approach to risk prevention and continuous improvement.

Experience: Minimum 2 years progressive experience in a manufacturing environment
