The Quality Field Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the satisfaction of customers, team members, and vendors by managing quality-related duties. This position involves providing on-shift coordination and support for quality issues on the manufacturing production floor, while developing and maintaining basic quality systems related to manufacturing high-quality products. The technician will perform analytical testing and determine product conformance to specifications in real-time, following Good Manufacturing Practices, particularly in the manufacture of extended shelf life (ESL) dairy products.
Responsibilities
- Achieve assigned goals in production, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
- Notify others of mechanical malfunctions to enhance productivity and equipment capabilities; identify areas where operators can assist in resolving concerns.
- Comply with GMPs, SOPs, corporate and plant policies, rules, and regulations.
- Provide assistance and support to all areas related to quality as assigned by supervisor/lead.
- Maintain focus on all quality checks performed by technicians; provide follow-up training as needed.
- Perform finished pallet audits, end-of-shift product reviews, and other quality checks to ensure standards are met.
- Track packaging/processing Key Quality Attributes (KQAs) and identify problem areas and trends.
- Respond to production operator’s quality questions and concerns.
- Communicate effectively between shifts and other departments; execute issue resolution and escalate issues in a timely manner.
- Communicate product disposition and assist Operations with compliance to standards.
- Ensure inventory accuracy of product in Quality Hold/retest status; perform routine cycle counts and reconciliations.
- Audit Operations paperwork for timely completion and accuracy.
- Participate in Internal Quality Audit process to improve plant quality systems and GMP compliance.
- Serve as a resource to Operations for auditing, updating, and documenting compliance to the Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Conduct titration testing, verify chemical concentrations, and verify CIP dilution samples as needed.
- Conduct troubleshooting as needed.
- Perform finished product weight verifications and checks, including volumetric checks.
- Complete sensory analysis on finished products as required.
- Conduct investigative research on products or materials as assigned.
- Conduct ATP cleaning verification and line release process per shift.
- Perform Environmental Swabbing as requested by QA Management.
- Set up documentation and complete sample shipments using proper shipping methods.
- Cover breaks, lunches, and other staffing needs as assigned by supervisor/lead.
- Comply with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing and safety; report concerns to supervisor/lead.
- Work safely and report safety concerns promptly to supervisor/lead; take corrective actions to ensure a safe environment.
- Report food safety problems and initiate action; support SQF by maintaining food safety and quality.
- Ensure work areas are sanitary and adhere strictly to sanitation practices.
Essential Skills
- Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts, including adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and knowledge of weights and measures.
- Basic statistics and statistical process control with attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and respond appropriately to basic and complex inquiries from employees, vendors, and customers.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English to perform job functions.
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals, and the role in achieving each of them.
- Ability to operate quality and facility equipment as required.
- Completion of all company training requirements.
- Ability to interpret company documents, literature, and UPC/code information.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows and software architecture.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of GED or High School Diploma required; Associates degree in chemistry, biology, food science, or ag-tech science preferred.
- 6 months to 2 years of manufacturing/machine operation experience in the dairy/food industry preferred.
- Experience with SQF or similar quality systems preferred.
Work Environment
The work environment involves ensuring compliance with GMP dress code standards, maintaining a safe work environment, and adhering to sanitation practices. Employees must report to work at scheduled times, communicate tardiness and absences, and be well-groomed and dressed in business-appropriate attire. The role demands maintaining safety standards, promptly reporting and correcting safety concerns, and complying with performance criteria and company policies.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
