Reports To: Production Supervisor
Location: Kymera – CASL Houston, TX - Onsite
Job Overview:
The Grinder will work with the coatings team and utilize a variety of grinding machines to prep and finish components to required customer and internal specifications. This role requires precision, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and use measuring instruments. The ideal candidate will be experienced in grinding and/or machining, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented.
Responsibilities:
- Operate manual grinding machines to remove carbide, chrome, and steel coatings using rough and finish grinding techniques to tight tolerances (up to 0.0005").
- Read and interpret charts, drawings, blueprints, and scope of work documentation.
- Determine product specifications and calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematical skills and measuring instruments.
- Use precision instruments including micrometers, calipers, and preset gauges to measure, examine, and test finished components.
- Determine and monitor machine feed and speed, and select abrasives appropriate to the material and desired finish.
- Observe machinery operation and diagnose machine malfunctions; perform adjustments or notify maintenance as needed.
- Lift, hoist, and position workpieces using cranes and other tools to safely load and unload machines.
- Maintain general cleanliness and organization of the work area to support safety and efficiency standards.

Requirements:
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of manual lathes, mills, drill presses, and machining tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work specifications.
- Good communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Adaptability to changing workloads and priorities.
- Safety awareness and commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
- Eligibility for employment in US.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug-screen, eye exam, hearing exam, and respirator test (health screenings required if applicable for job safety compliance purposes).
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in grinding and/or machining.
- Manual grinding experience required; experience in a fast-paced repair or machining environment strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive manual tasks for extended periods.
- Strength to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Capability to perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Coordination and manual dexterity to safely operate machinery, tools, and equipment while maintaining focus on ergonomics and safety.
- Ability to work safely in environments with potential exposure to dust, fumes, and noise.
- Ability to wear and work comfortably in required personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to steel-toe boots, for prolonged periods.
