Duties and Responsibilities:
The Companion Support Staff is responsible for providing direct support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in both home and community settings, in accordance with Helping Hands' policies and procedures.
- Companion Support: Provide one-on-one support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, assisting them in the achievement of personal goals and outcomes.
- Community Life Plan Implementation: Assist in the implementation of each individual’s Community Life Plan, ensuring services and activities are consistent with their personal preferences and goals.
- Recreational and Community Outings: Accompany individuals on recreational, social, and community outings, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Engagement in Leisure Activities: Facilitate and engage individuals in a variety of leisure activities such as arts, crafts, games, and other meaningful interactions in the home setting.
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Provide general assistance to individuals in their home and/or community setting to implement activities of daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, and housekeeping.
- Documentation: Complete accurate and timely documentation related to client interactions, progress, and activities in accordance with company policies.
- Communication and Reporting: Maintain open lines of communication with supervisory staff, addressing individual concerns, reporting progress, and attending staff meetings (virtual and/or in-person) as required.
- Crisis Response: Follow supervisor instructions in the event of a crisis, ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in care.
- Model Professionalism: Serve as a role model by demonstrating appropriate language, dress, and behavior in line with the professional standards expected by Helping Hands.
- Training and Development: Complete mandatory annual training relevant to Human Services (training may be completed online or virtually).
- Additional Duties: Assume additional responsibilities as required by supervisory staff.
Transportation:
- Transport individuals in a personal vehicle or agency vehicle, as needed, in accordance with established safety guidelines.
- Ensure realistic and flexible time management when transporting individuals—avoid imposing unrealistic time constraints.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license and insured personal vehicle.
- Must have the ability to meet transportation requirements as outlined in the job duties.
- Must successfully complete any additional training as required.
