Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Operation: Operate sawmill equipment such as saws, conveyors, and other cutting machinery to process raw timber into finished products (e.g., lumber, planks, beams).
  • Quality Control: Monitor the quality of materials throughout the production process, ensuring they meet specified standards and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Material Handling: Load and unload logs or wood products onto the sawmill equipment, using forklifts or other material handling equipment when necessary.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform basic preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment to ensure it runs efficiently. Report any malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining a clean and organized work area, and ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and coworkers.
  • Documentation: Accurately record production data, including logs processed, downtime, maintenance performed, and any quality issues encountered.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other operators, production teams, and supervisors to ensure production goals are met and to improve overall workflow.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Prior experience operating machinery in a sawmill, manufacturing, or industrial setting is preferred but not required.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to operate and maintain sawmill machinery, including saws, conveyors, and other related equipment.
  • Physical Stamina: Must be able to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), stand for long periods, and work in various environmental conditions (including hot or cold temperatures).
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to assess and correct issues with the wood or machinery that could affect product quality.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of safety practices in an industrial environment; certification in forklift operation or similar equipment is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to report issues, share updates, and follow instructions.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend for long periods.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and noisy environment.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position with possible overtime depending on production needs.
  • Shift work may be required, including evenings and weekends.
