Job Description
Position: Kenton County Public Library is seeking applicants for a Programmer position with a focus on creating library experiences. This position will be primarily responsible for the design, preparation and delivery of children and tween (ages 8-12 years old) programming that creates unforgettable experiences and leaves our patrons excited about what is next. This position will regularly work the Public Services desks, providing direct customer service to our patrons. Schedule is varied and requires at least one evening per week, weekend rotation and some after hours required. Shift hours may vary depending on staffing needs.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Designs mission-based exhibits & programs that are immersive, interactive and inclusive of the diverse needs of our community.
- Regularly evaluates programs and exhibits so they continue to evolve, remain current, and meet community needs.
- Engage with patrons on social media, in-the library and via outreach opportunities about upcoming programming experiences.
- Complete cross training at various public service desks, mainly circulation and children's.
- Provide direct service to patrons at Public Services desks.
- Support the library's promotional efforts via live TV and/or radio appearances.
- Work with Programming Coordinator & Patron Experience Librarian to determine best placement of passive programming throughout the library.
- Work with programming staff and other branch departments to ensure the best experiences for our families.
- Complete opening and/or closing duties; process and pull patron holds as needed; assist in maintaining the orderly appearance of the Children's level.
- Compile monthly report on programs and activities.
- Attend continuing education workshops/classes as necessary and available; take an active role in staying current with new trends in family library programming & experience.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience working with children and families.
- Knowledge and understanding of visitor experience standards and best practices.
- Be imaginative, creative, and a natural collaborator.
- Must be a problem solver and able to work independently.
- Excellent communications/public relations skills along with a strong service orientation.
- Knowledge of children's and tween literature preferred.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively deal with a diverse public and coworkers in a positive, professional manner; demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; awareness of community resources and contacts.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Library Certification through KDLA.
- Must have a sense of humor and respect for all ages and abilities.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internet; experience with electronic databases and resources.
- Must be able to bend and stoop, lift 30 lbs. and carry up to 10 ft.
- Must be able to push, pull book trucks weighing up to 100 lbs
