JOB SUMMARY: The Water Watcher is responsible for maintaining a high level of safety and vigilance on the pool deck to ensure the well-being of all students, particularly those in Level 3 and Level 4 classes. The Water Watcher will monitor the pool area to identify any safety hazards, assist in emergencies, and ensure that all rules and safety protocols are followed. The position requires constant awareness, swift action in emergencies, and direct interaction with the Aquatic Leadership and Water Safety Instructors (AT-WSIs) to maintain a secure and safe environment for all swimmers.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Surveillance and Monitoring:
o Maintain constant surveillance of students, specifically those in Level 3 and new to Level 4.
o Regularly count heads of swimmers in Level 3 classes.
o Scan the pool by designated zones, paying extra attention to corners, areas around steps and ladders, Level 3 classes, and all first-day Level 3 and Level 4 students.
o Ensure all AT-WSIs adhere to the 6 Rules of Safety.
Whistle Management:
o The Water Watcher must always wear a lifeguard-approved whistle on a breakaway neck lanyard or wrist lanyard coil while on the deck.
o The whistle is only to be used when a student has slipped off the bench and the AT-WSI has not noticed or is not taking appropriate action to return the student to safety.
Pool Deck Presence:
o Always remain on the pool deck when students are in the water or on the pool deck.
o Stand by or walk through zones where Level 3 classes are taking place to ensure optimal monitoring.
o Ensure that the pool deck is always clear of safety hazards.
o Enforce pool rules and maintain discipline while ensuring safety guidelines are followed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Available to work 2 shifts per week
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Aquatic experience
Valid drivers license
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
CPR and First Aid certifications - We will provide this training
