General Description of Duties and Responsibilities:

Staffs primary role is to provide the appropriate and effective behavioral supports tailored to the needs and desires of each individual to enable each to live as independently as possible. Residential Advisors are expected to recognize when an individual is in a crisis and be able to utilize the appropriate comprehensive crisis management training, psychiatric, medical back up services and/or the crisis team involved with the individual. The Residential Advisors play a critical role in the overall success of our Residential Services and are looked at as natural role models.
Specific Duties:

<li>Assist/monitor/teach individuals with preparation of daytime activities; encourage good personal hygiene, and behavior appropriate in their home or apartment.</li>
<li> Assist the Residential supervisor in the assessment of each individuals(s) ability, interests and need areas toward independent living. Provide input in the development of each ISP. The staffs behavior and interaction with individuals shall be directed towards the attainment of goals set forth within each ISP.</li>
<li>Assist/monitor/teach individuals(s) in budgeting skills.</li>
<li> Teach self medication skills according to ODP regulations, and when appropriate supervise in medication administration.</li>
<li>Assist/monitor/teach individuals engaging in daily chores.</li>
<li>Assist/monitor/teach individuals as needed in grocery shopping, menu planning, meal preparation and clean up.</li>
<li> Meet with individuals (as needed) on an individual basis to discuss concerns, problems.</li>
<li>Assist/monitor/teach individuals in holding house meetings and informal discussion groups with peers.</li>
<li> Handle emergency situations appropriately, (according to AIMED and ODP policies). Utilize crisis interventions when necessary.</li>

Your Role as a Special Education Teacher
<ul>
<li>IEP Development &amp; Instruction - Contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs, lesson plans, and instructional strategies tailored to students' individual needs and goals.</li>
<li>Documentation &amp; Reporting - Submit required documentation, including IEPs, progress reports, and evaluation reports, in a timely manner.</li>
<li>Collaboration &amp; Communication - Work with multidisciplinary teams, parents, and staff to provide appropriate services and support student progress.</li>
<li>Classroom Management &amp; Behavior Support - Maintain an organized and structured classroom while implementing behavior management strategies and crisis intervention techniques.</li>
<li>Assessment &amp; Progress Monitoring - Conduct assessments, track student progress, and document behavior data to support evaluations and behavior plans.</li>
<li>Safety &amp; Compliance - Ensure safety, adhere to policies (including confidentiality and PPE use), and assist students with self-care as needed.</li>
</ul>
Required Qualifications:
<ul>
<li> Must hold an active PA teaching certification, such as a Private Academic Certificate or a Level I or II Pennsylvania Instructional Special Education Certification K-12. </li>
<li> Alternatively, candidates with a completed Bachelor's degree and at least six credit hours in special education may qualify for a Temporary Private Academic Certificate. Must be willing to obtain additional special education credits as needed to obtain a Permanent Private Academic Certificate. </li>
<li> Must have authorization to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship. </li>
</ul>
Preferred (Nice to Have) Qualifications: 
<ul>
<li>Previous experience working in special education settings for intensive needs students.</li>
<li>Previous experience in behavior management and crisis prevention/intervention.</li>
</ul>
