PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Project LIFE is a comprehensive, multi-year transition-to-adulthood program in which individuals (ages 16+) with disabilities can develop, practice, and strengthen skills that are high predictors for increased adult independence and successful, integrated community employment.
Project LIFE offers a targeted course of study in combination with participation in experiential life skills education and authentic work-based learning experiences in the local community. Utilizing evidence-based transitions education concepts, Project LIFE is a proven program model that supports our student interns on their journey to adulthood and greater independence.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Project Life Skills Trainer provides vocational training to student interns enrolled in Project Life programming during their work-based learning experiences; both during the school year and compressed extended school year. This position will also provide support during classroom instruction and independent living activities. The Project LIFE Skills Trainer will be expected to learn multiple entry-level jobs skills, both within the Goodwill Donated Goods Retail network, in the community, and in collaboration with community business partners. 
Duties include but are not limited to:
<ul>
<li>Provide training on proper work techniques and socialization skills through the completion of worksite tasks and task analysis.</li>
<li> Implement necessary educational, behavioral, and/or developmental supports, including any identified assistive technology.</li>
<li>Build natural supports within the work environment; identify and implement job modifications including but not limited to graphical or adaptive work illustrations, learning systems for individuals based on universal design.</li>
<li>Be aware of and follow guidelines for all applicable regulatory entities such as Department of Public Welfare, Department of Labor, and PA Department of Education.</li>
<li>Utilize positive motivational strategies and techniques that help individual attain identified goals.</li>

External Hiring Range: $18.25. up to $18.98/hour or $37,960-$39,478/year
Schedule: Monday – Friday (8:00am – 4:00pm) 
Travel Required: Yes, some local travel to community sites in Allegheny County may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
<ul>
<li>Associates' Degree AND 3 years of experience successfully working with teens with disabilities.
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of the individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Special Education legislation preferred.</li>
<li>Experience with transition to employment preferred.</li>
<li>Special Education Certificate preferred.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Bachelor’s Degree AND 1 year of experience successfully working with teens with disabilities.
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Special Education legislation preferred.</li>
<li>Experience with transition to employment preferred.</li>

Skills Trainer - Project LIFE (Full-time)

We are looking for individuals age 18+ with some youth development experience to help implement educational, enrichment, and recreational activities. Duties Prepare Youth for Success 1.Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes that: -Promotes and stimulates program participation through the delivery of age-appropriate day-to-day activities in accordance with established program expectations. -Assists in orientating new members to the Club's daily scheduling and program expectations (Be Safe, Be Kind, and Take Care). -Provides guidance, role modeling, and constructive feedback to members to promote development and skill building in program area(s). -Demonstrates leadership through consistent use of safety and licensing best practices to ensure proper conduct and safety of members. -Continuously accounts for the members in their assigned group by name, face, and written attendance. -Oversees and assists in cleaning, organizing, and maintaining program space and upkeep. Program Development, Implementation and Supervision 2.Effectively implements and administers programs, services, and activities for members. 3.Monitors and evaluates programs, services, and activities to ensure Club and child safety, quality programs, and good appearance of the branch/site at all times. Ensures that program areas are safe, well-ventilated, and well lit; and that Club equipment is maintained in a good working condition. 4.Ensures the evaluation of Club programs continually, including tracking outcome metrics; verifies that programs/activities respond to member needs and addresses their gender and cultural diversity. 5.Responsible for documenting any problems or issues that may arise on a day-to-day basis through the use of injury/incident reports. 6.Responsible for communicating with child care licensing and DCYF when applicable. 7.Participates in special programs and/or events such as all-staff training days. 8.Participates in staff meetings. 9.Facilitates open and effective, professional verbal and written communication with families, staff, and members. 10.Other duties as assigned. Requirements A group leader in a school-age program shall be at least 17 years of age, and have one of the following: -Experience working with school-age children, totaling 600 hours; -Documentation of at least 3 credits in child development, education, recreation, or other field of study focused on children, awarded by an accredited college or university; -Documentation that she or he is a certified coach; -Documentation of 5 years of parenting experience; or 
-Documentation form or on file with the department that she or he was qualified and employed as a group leader in a school-age program on or before the adoption of these rules in 2022. 
·Employees who are 19 years of age may be assigned to the senior program. 
·Knowledge of youth development. 
·Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. 
·Ability to communicate with parents/guardians. 
·Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth. 
·Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment. 
·Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications in order to meet Bureau of Childcare licensing requirements. 
·Occasional travel for meetings/training, etc. may be required. 
·May be asked to drive Club van/short bus occasionally. (21 plus years of age only) 
·Must possess a safe driving record and submit a copy of such record to either the Operations Director or human resources department.
