This position is at East High School and is 37.5 hours per week/11 months per year.
The Chemical Dependency Prevention Counselor is responsible for providing school-based crisis intervention, prevention counseling (individual, family and group) and case management services to youth. The Counselor provides support for problem solving as well as information and referral services. S/he is responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments with the student that may identify any issues related to substance use/abuse, problem gambling and other risk factors that inhibit healthy youth development. Based upon assessment, the Counselor will develop an Individual Service Plan with a youth that includes the direct services provided by the Counselor, school staff, as well as referral linkages to other community agencies and school services. The Counselor will work with faculty, staff and collaborative partner agencies to assure quality services are provided. The Counselor will attend school meetings, referral meetings, and when appropriate, school events. They will maintain a professional relationship with faculty, staff and partnering agencies. The expected salary range for this position is based on several factors including market, funding, candidates experience level, skills, training, and related knowledge. Our ranges are developed and published as good faith estimates for the position.
Salary Range (full-time): $59,773 - $65,243 
Office benefit package for full-time (covers parking/remote expenses): $180/month subject to change
**Sign-On Bonus of $500 payable after 6 months in role**
The Certified Peer Specialist will promote hope and recovery by sharing life experiences and lessons learned as a person in recovery. The Peer Specialist guides people in identifying and working towards recovery goals, promoting engagement in recreational and social activities, teaching self-advocacy and developing wellness management skills. Additional responsibilities include participating in treatment planning, helping people access and maintain benefits and community resources, providing care coordination with external providers, connecting with natural supports, and providing crisis intervention services.
The position is PT at 20 hours/week. Start date is late June 2025!
Duties and Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Provide peer counseling and support to validate clients’ and families’ experiences. </li>
<li>Have a strong dedication to recovery.</li>
<li>Provide guidance and encouragement to clients to take responsibility and actively participate in their own recovery.</li>
<li>Serve as a mentor to clients and families to promote hope and empowerment. </li>
<li>Help Youth ACT team members to better understand and empathize with each client’s unique and subjective experience and perception.</li>
<li>Provide expertise, cross-training and consultation from the perspective of a mental health service user to the entire team.</li>
<li>Collaborate with the team to promote a team culture in which client self-determination, client decision-making in treatment planning, and protection of client rights are supported. </li>
<li>Assist in the provision of ongoing assessment of clients’ mental illness symptoms and clients’ response to treatment.</li>
<li>Work with clients on all aspects of psychiatric rehabilitation, support, and psychotherapeutic interventions identified in the treatment plan, including Medication Assistance and Support. </li>
<li>Assist in the provision of direct services to clients on an individual, group, and family basis. </li>
<li>Teach symptom-management techniques and promote personal growth and development with mental health issues and substance use issues.</li>
<li>Assist, teach, and support clients with activities of daily living, vocational skills, accessing housing, maintaining financial supports, and utilizing buses and other transportation in the community.</li>
<li>Provide side-by-side support, coaching and encouragement to help clients socialize and carry out leisure time activities on evenings, weekends, and holidays. </li>
<li>Organize and lead individual and group social and recreational activities and provide opportunities to practice social skills.</li>
<li>Provide on-call crisis intervention covering evening hours and serve as a backup to evening and weekend staff on a rotating schedule.</li>
<li>Available to work weekend, evening, and holidays as needed. </li>
<li>Attend and participate in all scheduled team meetings.</li>
<li>Complete documentation, reports, and charting contemporaneously and in an organized manner.</li>
<li>Participate actively in on-going professional growth and development; maintain appropriate professional behavior and participate in supervision.</li>
<li>Maintain a pattern of regular work hours</li>
<li>Must be able to transport clients in the community.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned. </li>

Requirements
<ul>
<li>High school diploma or equivalent. </li>
<li>Must be at least 21 years of age</li>
<li>Must have primary diagnosis of serious mental illness, be a former recipient of children’s mental health services, must demonstrate leadership and advocacy skills and a strong dedication to recovery.</li>
<li>Must be in the process of recovery </li>
<li>Credentialed as a DHS Certified Peer Specialist</li>
</ul>
Preferred qualifications: 
<ul>
<li>Experience with delivery of mental health services to people with SPMI</li>
<li>Bachelor's or Master's degree in Behavioral Science as a related field</li>

This position is responsible for overseeing daily program operations, ensuring effective outreach, participant engagement, and service delivery while supervising staff and fostering professional development. This position also monitors program performance, ensures compliance with organizational standards, and collaborates with the Program Manager and community partners to enhance services and meet program goals by performing the following duties.
Job Duties
